Why you look washed out in photos, and the 30-second test that fixes it.
Holiday season means cameras everywhere. And flash shows everything your mirror doesn't.
If you've ever looked great in person and ghostly in the photo, it's usually one of three things:
Your sunscreen. Mineral SPF with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide can bounce flash back and leave a white cast. Choose a formula that blends clear, or press it in and let it settle before makeup.
Shimmer and shine. Glitter and chunky highlighter throw light straight back at the lens. Go for a soft, satin glow and keep it on the high points only.
Too much powder. Heavy powder, especially a translucent one, can read flat and white under flash. Use it only where you shine, and use less than you think.
Then do the test I give my clients: take a photo of your face with flash before you leave the house. It takes 30 seconds. Whatever looks too white, too shiny, or too heavy in that photo is what you fix.
Your mirror flatters you. The camera doesn't.
One more thing: choose cream products for blush and glow. They sit in the skin and photograph like skin.
