Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions I get on set. Whether you’re booking a photo shoot, commercial, or video production in NYC, this FAQ will give you insight into how I approach natural hair and makeup, what to expect on set, and how I make talent look their best on camera.

Q: What does “natural” hair and makeup mean on camera?
A: On camera, “natural” doesn’t mean bare — it means enhancing your features so you look fresh, polished, and true to yourself. The goal is a clean, balanced look that photographs beautifully without appearing heavy or overly styled. Natural makeup corrects tone, smooths the skin, and brings out your best features, while natural hair styling ensures your texture, length, and shape look effortless and flattering on screen.

Q: How do you prep talent for photo shoots, commercials, and video production?
A: Prep begins with understanding the project’s goals — whether editorial, advertising, or corporate. I start with clean, well-prepped skin and hair, then build a look that fits both the client and the camera. For video, I pay special attention to shine control and longevity; for photography, I focus on how lighting and angles will affect the final result. I can also add length, density, and even change the natural texture of hair when needed. My kit is designed to handle long days, quick changes, and different environments.

Q: What’s the difference between everyday makeup and camera-ready makeup?
A: Everyday makeup is designed to look good in person, often in natural light. Camera-ready makeup has to perform under studio lighting, lenses, and HD cameras, which can magnify details the eye doesn’t catch. That means correcting uneven tones, reducing shine, defining features, and ensuring durability without looking heavy — balancing “natural to the eye” and “flawless on camera.”

Q: Why are natural looks ideal for editorial, corporate, and lifestyle shoots?
A: Natural looks keep the focus where it belongs — on the subject, the clothing, or the story being told. In fashion and editorial, natural makeup enhances without distracting from the creative direction. For corporate and lifestyle shoots, it ensures talent looks approachable, professional, and timeless. Natural aesthetics photograph well across different skin tones, settings, and lighting conditions, making them versatile for many types of productions.

Q: What can be fixed in hair and makeup — and what can’t?
A: I can correct color issues (like redness, under-eye circles, or uneven skin tone) and use techniques to minimize the appearance of texture (like blemishes or fine lines). Makeup can’t fully erase texture, but I create the illusion of smoothness and balance under the camera. For hair, I can shape, tame, add length and density, and even change the natural texture to achieve the desired look. My goal is to make every client look their best on camera.
