Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to common questions I get on set. Whether it’s a photo shoot, commercial, or video production in NYC, this FAQ explains my approach to natural hair and makeup, what to expect, and how we help our talent look their best on camera.

Q: What does “natural” hair and makeup mean on camera?
A: Natural doesn’t mean bare — it means enhancing features so you look fresh, polished, and true to yourself. Key points:

  • Corrects tone and smooths skin

  • Highlights natural features

  • Keeps hair effortless, flattering, and camera-ready

Q: How do you prep talent for shoots?
A: Prep starts with understanding the project’s goals. Then:

  • Clean, prepped skin and hair

  • Looks built to suit both client and camera

  • Video focus: shine control, longevity

  • Photo focus: lighting and angles

  • Can add length, density, or adjust texture when needed

Q: What’s the difference between everyday makeup and camera-ready makeup?
A: Everyday makeup works in natural light; camera-ready makeup must perform under studio lighting, HD cameras, and lenses. That means:

  • Correcting uneven tones

  • Reducing shine

  • Defining features

  • Ensuring durability without looking heavy

Q: Why are natural looks ideal for editorial, corporate, and lifestyle shoots?
A: Natural looks:

  • Keep the focus on the subject or story

  • Enhance without distracting from creative direction

  • Work across skin tones, settings, and lighting

  • Make talent look professional, approachable, and timeless

Q: What can be fixed — and what can’t?
A: Hair and makeup can:

  • Correct color issues (redness, uneven skin tone)

  • Minimize texture (blemishes, fine lines)

  • Shape, tame, add length/density, and adjust hair texture
Makeup can’t erase texture completely, but I create the illusion of smoothness and balance on camera.
