The Luxury of Liking Yourself
Tiny rituals, calm confidence.
Sometimes, the best glow doesn’t come from highlighter. It comes from calm confidence and editorial simplicity. February is a reminder: beauty isn’t just about products — it’s about your energy, your awareness, your intention.
I encourage clients to step back, breathe, and notice what their face wants that day. Some days it’s a swipe of warmth on the cheeks, other days it’s just well-groomed brows. Every choice communicates self-respect and presence — a subtle love letter to your own features.
Beauty is personal. It doesn’t have to be performative. When you invest in rituals that feel calm and intentional, makeup becomes more than pigment: it becomes affirmation.

Makeup That Loves You Back
Editorial polish.
Makeup shouldn’t fight your face. It should work with it. Foundations that honor your skin, blush that moves naturally with expression, and brows that frame without forcing — these are small tweaks with big impact.
I love helping clients find products that feel editorial yet effortless. When makeup respects your features, it allows you to show up confidently on camera, at meetings, or in the street. It’s subtle, but the effect is undeniable.
Sometimes the most luxurious beauty isn’t the newest palette or the trendiest product. It’s understanding what works for your face today and letting it shine with minimal effort. That’s when makeup truly loves you back.

A Little Romance for Your Routine
Intentional touches, and everyday glamour without effort.
Small gestures transform everyday beauty into ritual. A sweep of soft highlight, a touch of warmth, a carefully groomed brow these are the quiet ways to romance your routine.
It’s not about complexity or trendiness. It’s about intention. When each step is thoughtful, you feel it — and others notice the energy more than the product. Glam becomes a quiet language of self-respect and presence.
Love-themed routines don’t have to be over the top. They can be editorial, subtle, and entirely you. Morning beauty is a chance to celebrate the features that deserve attention without overthinking.

Swipe Right on Your Features
Highlight what you love. Soften what you don’t.
Not every day needs reinvention. Sometimes it’s about appreciating what your face already does best and giving it the editorial, confident framing it deserves.
This approach makes daily beauty effortless and affirming. When makeup follows your features, rather than forcing them into a trend, every glance in the mirror feels like recognition — a moment of self-respect.
By letting your face guide your choices, rather than tutorials or fads, you create an editorial yet intimate routine that feels tailored to you. It’s a swipe-right energy: confident, calm, and fully aligned with your own features.

Don’t Experiment When It Counts
Stability first, artistry second.
Here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear:
The first time you work with a makeup artist—especially before a major event or camera moment—is not the time to reinvent yourself. My job is to help you look the way you want to look on camera. That requires stability. Familiarity. A baseline. Trying a brand-new look with a brand-new artist creates too many variables. Even if you look great, there’s a strong chance you won’t feel great—because you’re not used to seeing yourself that way yet.
Confidence comes from recognition.
If we’re working together for the first time, show me:
Makeup you already love on yourself
Products you feel comfortable wearing
The version of you that feels safe on camera
We start there. Then—if the vibe is right—we experiment, build, and evolve. Stability first. Artistry second. Magic comes after that.

Feng Shui for Glam
Big on energy.
Feng Shui isn’t mystical—it’s awareness. It’s paying attention to how a space makes you feel before a single brush touches the face. Before I start makeup, I notice everything. Can my client see themselves right away? Do they have a place to put their things and exhale? Is the room calm, open, intentional? Because when the energy is off, it shows on the face.
Tension tightens features. Chaos creates distraction. A nervous system that doesn’t feel safe won’t relax—and relaxed faces photograph better. Always. I set the space first. Then I set the glam. Makeup doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The environment is part of the look.

Skip the Collagen. Eat Sardines.
2026 beauty tip: put the collagen powder down.
If you actually care about skin, hair, and elasticity—eat sardines. From the can. With the bones. Like a feral alley cat who knows something you don’t.
Collagen supplements are cute.
Sardines are effective.
They’re packed with omega-3s, calcium, protein, and nutrients your skin actually knows how to use. This is beauty from the inside that doesn’t require a pastel tub or a manifesting routine.
Is it glamorous? No.
Is it powerful? Absolutely.
Sometimes the most unhinged advice is the most honest.
Your skin doesn’t want trends. It wants nutrients.

Is Your Look Aging You?
Let’s be honest.
Most people don’t age because they’re getting older.
They age because they stop paying attention.
I see it constantly. Someone finds a look that works at 27 and decides, Perfect. This is me forever. Same liner. Same blush placement. Same everything. Meanwhile, the face has changed—but the makeup hasn’t.
Faces evolve. What once lifted can start to pull. What once looked sharp can suddenly look heavy.
The goal isn’t to look younger unless you want that.
The goal is to look fresh.
Fresh comes from understanding your features now. Highlighting what still works. Softening what doesn’t. Reassessing instead of clinging to your glory days like a security blanket.
Every few years, it’s time to check in.
New face. New strategy.
Don’t fight the face.
Collaborate with it.

Set Snacks & Survival Tools
Set-day essentials.
Long production days demand a strategy. I keep it simple: GoMacro bars, Illy espresso, alkaline water, protein, and greens. These small, intentional choices keep energy steady, skin looking alive, and focus sharp from call to wrap.
Beauty isn’t just what you put on your face—it starts inside. This minimal ritual is my personal survival kit, especially in December when the days are long, schedules are hectic, and every moment counts.
Minimal effort, maximum effect. That’s my kind of holiday preparation.

The Power of Men’s Grooming
Modern masculine.
Men are stepping into subtle grooming in a way that’s confident and modern. Balanced skin, soft coverage, brightened eyes, clean nails. Nothing heavy, just quiet polish.
As someone who’s spent years behind the camera with actors, hosts, and talent, this is standard. What’s exciting is seeing everyday men embrace it. It’s understated, elegant, and long overdue—and honestly, it looks amazing.
Self-care, preparation, and confidence without performance: that’s the beauty of today’s masculine routine.

The Trends We’re Actually Excited About for 2026
2026, but softer.
2026 is about subtle editorial shifts. Less viral hype, more intentional polish. Skin that still reads real, beauty that’s undetectable yet elevated, neutral tones with warmth and dimension, clean nails as understated luxury, and editorial minimalism with soft lashes and lived-in texture.
These trends are about quiet magnetism. Presence over performance. Effortless polish for winter parties, meetings, or just walking through NYC streets with confidence.
It’s the kind of beauty that whispers, not shouts. That’s the energy I’m carrying into the new year.

The Best Beauty Advice I Ever Received in 2025
Effortless radiance.
The best beauty advice I got this year:
“If they can name what you did, it’s too much. But if they can’t stop looking at you, you did it perfectly.”
Invisible glam is all about subtlety. Tiny corrections, soft lifts, gentle brightness—these small moves create presence without ever announcing themselves. Skin is allowed to have texture, radiance comes from within, and enhancement feels effortless.
This is refinement over transformation. The kind of beauty that makes people notice but can’t explain. That quiet, magnetic energy is exactly what I’m loving this December.

This Month in Print: Organic/Synthetic
Our latest editorial for the Latest magazine is in print!
Soft where it needs to be, sharp where it matters. ✨
This month, our Organic/Synthetic editorial came out in the Latest magazine. The concept explores the line between natural and synthetic materials—how they coexist, clash, and harmonize in fashion.
For the makeup, I focused on enhancing tension and contrast through skin and subtle sculpting, letting the models’ features read editorial yet effortless on camera. Organic fabrics called for soft, natural finishes, while synthetic pieces demanded sharper, dimensional touches. Every brushstroke and highlight was designed to interact with light and shadow, creating depth that feels alive on set.
This project reminded me that makeup is about more than products—it’s about supporting the narrative, shaping perception, and translating creative vision to the lens. On set, it’s the interplay between skill, timing, and collaboration that makes each look sing.
Big love to the incredible team who made this possible: Wash Creative produced and directed, photography by Denis Gutierrez-Ogrinc, styling by Heather Newberger c/o Laird and Good Company, hair by Casey Geren c/o Atelier Management, set and production design by Matthias Heumeier, with production and style assistance from Avery Rose. You can see the full editorial here and follow along on Instagram @makeupbyremi for more behind-the-scenes.
Siren’s Beauty Paint & Sip at Saint James Libations
This month, I stepped into something a little different from the usual set pace
Soft glam, real glow
This month, I stepped into something a little different from the usual set pace—Siren’s Beauty Paint & Sip at Saint James Libations. The theme was beautifully simple: one glam look and one natural look, demonstrated live as guests painted, sipped, and created alongside us. I led the natural side, focusing on soft radiance, believable glow, and those quiet refinements that make a look feel effortless yet intentional in person and on camera.
Being back in platform-artist mode was such a joy—there’s a unique energy that comes from teaching live, connecting through artistry, and watching people engage in the process right in front of you. But what made the night truly special was everything beyond the techniques and products. There’s something powerful about a room full of creatives who show up not just to be seen, but to support one another.
In these economic and political times, spaces centered on collaboration and community matter more than ever. Throughout the evening, conversations flowed—questions, shared stories, exchanged ideas, tiny sparks of inspiration moving from one person to another. It reminded me that artistry grows through connection, not isolation. We lift higher when we lift together.
Events like this reaffirm why I love what I do. Makeup is the medium, but community is the message. And when artists gather with openness and generosity, it becomes clear that we’re all branches on the same tree—all connected at the root.

Seasonal Switch-Up
A few seasonal swaps will keep your skin fresh, radiant, and camera-ready all season long
Cooler days, warmer glow.
November on set means adjusting for hydration and glow. Cooler weather and long production hours require subtle tweaks in my kit to maintain skin that reads fresh and natural on camera.
This month, I’m loving:
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream — lightweight hydration under HD foundation.
Naturopathica Honey Balancing Mist — a mid-shoot refresher for subtle glow.
Glo Skin Beauty Melanin Spot Eraser — targeted brightening, great for tightening.
Switching a few products to match the season doesn’t require a complete overhaul. Think of it as small, intentional changes that protect your skin, enhance your glow, and help your makeup translate beautifully whether in photos, on video, or out in the world.

5 AM Call Time, 5 Steps to Look Alive
Even at 5 AM, the right prep turns tired mornings into camera-ready radiance
Less rush, more ritual.
Some mornings on set start at 5 AM, and keeping talent looking fresh is key. The early hours demand a routine that balances efficiency with polish so every face is camera-ready without overdoing it.
My go-to routine:
Hydrate — a splash of water or mist wakes up the skin.
Caffeine Eye Cream (The Inkey List) — smooths, de-puffs, and brightens the under-eyes.
Hydro Glow Serum (The Inkey List) — adds lightweight radiance, preps the skin, and helps makeup sit seamlessly.
Omega Water Cream (The Inkey List) — breathable hydration that locks everything in without heaviness.
I love the Inkey List products because they’re fragrance-free, gentle on sensitive skin, and don’t pill under makeup. They feel light, breathable, and comfortable, even during long production days.
Even if your mornings aren’t at 5 AM, these habits translate. Proper hydration, targeted eye care, and prepping your skin in the right order will make your makeup look better, last longer, and help you feel confident no matter how early your day starts.

Midnight at Dover Street: The Miss Claire Party
A night of silhouettes, tulle, and electric energy at the Miss Claire party in Paris
A night of silhouettes, tulle, and electric energy with Miss Claire in Paris.
The Miss Claire party at Dover Street Market in Paris was a full sensory experience. The space was filled with people I admire, shaping culture in New York and beyond, all there to celebrate the collection. The event, sponsored by Plush Perfume, was held in the beautifully curated Dover Street Paris space, where every iteration of design feels gracious and intentional. Personal style wasn’t performative—it was authentic, confident, and expressive.
Miss Claire’s atelier (See her on Instagram here), known for dressing Addison Rae and other high-profile clients, showcased dramatic silhouettes, voluminous taffeta skirts, lace catsuits, and feathered corset-tulle sets. Every piece felt like a main-character moment, moving with energy and presence that made the room feel alive. Watching the light catch the textures and fabrics, it was impossible not to be captivated by the craftsmanship and vision in each creation.
Nights like this make Paris feel infinite—alive with texture, movement, and gestures that linger long after the doors close. It’s a reminder that fashion isn’t just what you wear—it’s how it interacts with energy, personality, and space. The evening left me inspired by the effortless elegance, creative energy, and authenticity that defined every corner of the room.

Game Face: Olivia Nelson in Paris
Behind the glow with Olivia Nelson during a week of shoots, runways, and Paris light
Glow is a state of motion. ✨
Had the pleasure of spending Paris Fashion Week with Olivia Nelson (See her on Instagram here) of the Connecticut Sun, prepping for Yohji Yamamoto SS26 and shooting across the city. Each look captured different sides of her—strong, playful, creative—and shifted with the light, location, and mood. Olivia was a chameleon in the best way, moving seamlessly between streets, studios, and runways across the arrondissements.
The focus is always on skin that looks and feels transparent, no matter the look. Small changes to eyes, cheeks, and lips created entirely new iterations—showing how subtle tweaks can make a big impact. Every look was about energy that felt natural and let Olivia’s personality shine through.
Paris has a clear style that feels both effortless and intentional. From the architecture to the street style, there’s a je ne sais quoi I love—the rhythm, the light, the elegance in every corner. The shots won’t be out for a while, but I can’t wait to see and share what we created.

Teaching at The Real School by L’Oréal Paris
Inside Paris’s most forward-thinking beauty school where ambition meets real-world artistry
Beauty school, but make it business.
During Paris Fashion Week, I had the incredible opportunity to teach four classes at The Real School by L’Oréal Paris, sharing insights on brand strategy, marketing, and navigating the beauty industry. The students’ creativity and curiosity were contagious — each conversation reminded me why... I love this field and how much there is to learn from one another.
Being in a space so full of fresh ideas and fearless imagination reminded me that growth comes from exchange — from staying curious, open, and connected. I left Paris feeling renewed and inspired to bring that same energy back home to New York.

My First Paris Fashion Week
A week in Paris taught me that real glow comes from letting your skin breathe, not hiding it
Croissants Anyone?
As I wandered through the streets of Paris, I couldn’t help but think about the Parisian aesthetic — what makes it so distinct, what resonates with me as a New York City–based makeup artist, and how it contrasts with the pulse of both NYC and my hometown of Chicago.
Parisian beauty feels intentional yet effortless, polished yet undone — a kind of quiet confidence that doesn’t need to announce itself. It’s about embracing individuality, not perfection. There’s a softness in the details, a balance between restraint and expression, that continues to inspire me every time I visit.
With intention,
♡ Remi O.
